REGARDING your story about speeding (Journal, August 28), I live just off Bridge Street, Pershore, and clearly hear traffic that is speeding.

My perception is that motorcyclists are the main offenders as they accelerate fast once they're past the 20mph speed limit leaving town.

The 20mph zone is followed by a 30mph zone which extends for only 100 metres before it becomes 40mph, hence the 30mph zone is often a rapid acceleration zone!

Particularly during the summer months there have been motorbikes doing an estimated 60mph by the time they reach the end of the 30mph limit.

Unfortunately, the 40mph sign is just before a crossing point for the Pershore bridges public footpath, also the footpath to Wick, so walkers who cross at that point sometimes have to run for their lives! The road is quite wide here, and pushchairs and wheelchair users have to hurry across.

Also, just beyond this point is a left-hand bend and a junction off to the right.

I think it would be wise to consider extending the 30mph zone a further 100 metres or so out of the town to enable safer crossing of the road by pedestrians and safer navigation of the bend for drivers.
