HOCHTIEF says it has been waiting for bespoke handrails for Abbey Bridge.
They started the bridge project over 18 months ago and yet their project engineers and planners apparently hadn't thought about designing the handrails and obtaining whatever approvals were required leaving us with a mess (Journal, July 31).
It is yet another fiasco by this company, which should never have been taken on in the first place.
By the way, the one bit of handrail which is supposedly finished – on the corner leading down to Waterside – is a disgrace. The angles are all over the place, with big gaps on the top where they join one another.
The only bit of good news is that the old toilet block is to be demolished in September.
