THIS letter is directed towards the irresponsible dog owners who visit or use Hampton cemetery as a shortcut.
Some allow their dogs off the lead to foul graves and urinate on headstones, mainly in the lower half of the cemetery where they are out of view.
This has been going on for a number of years. It is a disrespectful and disgusting thing to happen in a cemetery, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
The most recent case was on March 8, where the dog mess was actually on the grave.
I have in the past complained to the town council, who put up paper notices. Needless to say, the weather or people removed them.
Last year I complained again and wooden notices were put up.
It wasn’t long before the dog owners complained and the notices were taken down again.
I ask why, if visiting a grave to pay your respects, do you need a dog?
