Whether by accident or design the three letters in the Journal (March 8) encapsulate beautifully all that has gone wrong with the bridge project.

Martin King’s letter touches on a couple of relevant issues, but in particular he makes the point that the reasons for the delay are not being made public.

What has the council got to hide?

Marion Lathan’s letter refers to the need to change the traffic flow – how many letters have made just this point over the last two or three months?

Finally, Tony Willoughby’s letter lays bare the expenses claimed by councillors.

While I am sure that all are ‘within the rules’ it seems a lot to me, especially when one considers that these roles were carried out for free by public-spirited characters not that long ago.

I have made the first two points above to Councillor John Smith, but no reply was received.

I did get a letter from Ian Blake who had, unfortunately, misread my letter with the result that he made no sense at all.

Tony Rowland is right. We need an inquiry into the whole mess including, I might add, the role of the gentlemen wearing the hi-viz suits.
