YOUR report about a recent Evesham Town Council meeting quoted Councillor John Smith as complaining that town council members had not sought good news from him about the bridge, and complained that members had raised issues about the delay.

Well until now there has been very little good news about the bridge, but at last we have some – the bridge reopens (but only partially) in the next few days.

Is this because a lot of overtime has been worked recently, unlike the early stages of the project last year when weekend and evening working would have been much relevant?

Does John Smith really consider that the town council and the people of the town are unable to accept bad news, or does he believe that they did not need to be advised of the problems and delays?

Perhaps this is the reason why he has steadfastly refused to reply to any letter in the paper previously.

The people of Evesham are rather more intelligent than just to expect good news; they wished to be advised of all aspects of the project.

Even though the bridge is now reopening, seven months late, they will still want to know the truth and reasons for the delay and how Worcestershire County Council has spent our money. Somehow I expect it will be a struggle, though, to obtain these facts.
