PERHAPS somebody could explain to Peter Luff MP that the people who have been forced to visit the Caring Hands foodbank are not “losers”, as he describes them. They are sufferers (‘Foodbank numbers set to double’, Journal August 8).
Many of them will be ordinary citizens, just managing on modest incomes, and then struck a devastating blow by the invidious bedroom tax.
A tax imposed by a callous administration that apparently has neither the wit, nor the capacity, to extract enough taxes from the rich and powerful, his “winners”.
The minutest percentage of that lost tax could instantly cover the sums causing so much unnecessary suffering.
Mr Luff may be “glad that Caring Hands exists”.
Shame on us all if we accept his sentiments.
