Stratford Livestock Market Report for Tuesday, March 16

9:41am Wednesday 17th March 2010

SHEEP – 234 head. A smaller entry here - as likewise experienced at other centres throughout the region – though demand remains as firm as ever due to this current national shortage of sheep for sale.

Stratford Livestock Market Report for Tuesday, February 23

2:26pm Tuesday 23rd February 2010

SHEEP – 420 head. Henry H. Bletsoe & Son report another small entry as numbers seem to be rapidly drying up throughout most areas of the country combined with the recent inclement weather conditions which have prevented producers from marketing their livestock. This in turn has helped maintain solid returns in each and every aisle, with premium prices still being paid in particular for all the better fleshed sheep.

Shipston Music Society wk8

10:51am Tuesday 23rd February 2010

The programme for the evening was called “You May Be More Musical Than You Think” this intriguing title ensured a good attendance by the membership. A very good friend of the Society, Charles Matthews, presented the evening. Charles is internationally renowned as a Pianist, Organist, Harpsichordist, Composer and Teacher and it was as the latter, as a teacher, that he began. He explained in easy language how music “works”, demonstrating on the piano, why some notes sound wrong in one setting but right in another, how discord can jar but within harmony, can add a new dimension to the sound. This was followed by contrasting pieces in illustration, ranging from Giles Farnaby’s “Quodlings Delight” on Harpsichord, through a recreation of Art Tatum’s version of “Ain’t Misbehavin”, to Mozart’s “Sonata K.312” in which, with great humour and a visual aid, he demonstrated the different recurring moods within the piece.

Shipston Arts and Crafts Society wk4

10:16am Monday 25th January 2010

The Society met on Tuesday, January 19 to hear a very interesting and informative talk by Ruth Bubb on making "Dirty Pictures Come Clean". We learned of the various layers of materials that go into the creation of oil paintings, the source of the various colour pigments and when they were first used, and the varnish on top which can often, but not always, be removed to show the original colours underneath. Next month Mrs Vivien Heffernan will enlighten us on the Scottish Colourists at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 16 in the Townsend Hall. Visitors very welcome.

Stratford Livestock Market Report for Tuesday, January 12

9:22am Wednesday 13th January 2010

SHEEP – 527 head. The first day’s trading under the Henry H. Bletsoe & Son banner encouragingly attracted a surprisingly large attendance of interested parties to the market who witnessed a most buoyant auction throughout. Plenty of snow remained on the ground which deterred many vendors from attending though those who did brave the inclement conditions were well rewarded with yet another leap in the trade for sheep in every aisle.
