MIKE Rees stepped in at the last minute to show us a DVD of his visit to Annapurna.
The photography was stunning, and Mike held our attention with his vivid descriptions of the trip. We shared with him the early mornings, when the temperature was minus goodness-knows-how-many-degrees, the primitive conditions of some of their accommodation and the rhododendrons and exotic birds that they saw. The high altitude also caused considerable discomfort. As one of our members said, when giving a vote of thanks: “Thank you, Mike for sharing the trip with us, so we don’t have to go”.
On July 5 Muriel Pilkington will give a talk entitled Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
