At a very full service at Fladbury, St John the Baptist church, Mrs Carol Rosier handed a cheque for £265 to Mrs Muriel Mitchell, as a contribution from the parish to the Children’s Society on behalf of Relief at Haiti following the earthquake.

Evesham Decorative & Fine Arts Association wk4

Evesham Decorative and Fines Arts Society is holding its monthly lecture on Wednesday February 10 at 8pm. This is held at the Evesham Arts Centre where there is amply car parking, bar and coffee facilities and an excellent lecture theatre. The doors open at 7pm.

On January 18 Nick Bridgewater entertained members with an extensive display of stamp issues illustrating and resulting from the Fall of the Russian Empire. The next meeting will be on February 1 at 7.30pm at Wallace House, Oat Street, Evesham and Evesham members will be showing items from their own collections based on the theme 1969 or 40 years. Evesham Rambling club wk2

The next walk of the Evesham Rambling Club will be a walk of about 13 miles in the Winchcombe area of Gloucestershire, starting at 9am on January 31. The leaders says "A figure of eight walk based on Winchcombe. The morning takes in parts of the Gloucestershire Way and the Wardens Way, returning via Home Park. It includes some steady climbs in the first half but is almost all downhill in the second. The afternoon utilises the old Cotswold Way to Belas Knap (a climb of about 200m spread over two miles), returning over parts of the new Cotswold Way." The first meeting of the New Year featured the ‘Three Sheets’ competition for which there were seven entries. The cup was won by John Allison with a carefully presented story of the Epiphany well illustrated by stamps from around the world. Our next meeting will be at 7.30pm on January 18 at Wallace House, Oat Street when Mick Bridgewater will present a display entitled ‘The fall of the Russian empire’. At the last meeting on December 7 the guest speaker was Robert Tungate from Stroud who gave a brief biography of Garibaldi with a selection of stamps, postcards and documents celebrating his life and the development of Italy from unification in 1860 to the founding of the Republic in 1945, a fascinating evening for the members.

The next walk of the Evesham Rambling Club will be a walk of abour 12 miles in the Cleeve Hill area of Gloucestershire, starting at 9:15am on 27 December. The leaders says “A figure of 8 walk. In the morning we go down to Postlip and gradually climb back, with the longest climb (90 m up) just before lunch. The afternoon goes round Cleeve Hill, visiting some of the less well known spots. A few short climbs, mostly in the half hour after lunch. Varied scenery and fine views." All welcome, please ring 01905 840008 for more details.
