MAYOR’S DIARY

I HAVE not seen my dad for the past two weeks... like many, he has been camped in front of the television for the duration of the Olympic Games.

The 2012 Games were a triumph for Britain as the eyes of the world looked to London and local rowers Alex Gregory and Zac Purchase became the pride of Evesham as they added to Britain’s medal haul with a gold and silver medal respectively.

The Royal Mail painted a post box for every gold medal Team GB won. Alex’s post box now stands in Cheltenham, his birth town.

As a whimsical protest to ‘Evesham’s’ letter box being in Cheltenham, BBC Hereford and Worcester invited me and Tony Rowlands from Evesham Rowing Club to gift wrap the post box in Market Square in gold paper! I must say, it looked very impressive.

Only two other engagements this week. The first, a garden party in a beautiful garden in Hampton organised by members of Evesham Stroke Club and the second, a fund-raising event in aid of the children with cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Anne and Gerald Evans and their family and friends raised a magnificent £1,500 for this very worthy charity.

ROBERT RAPHAEL, Mayor of Evesham
