DEFFORD WI

IT was a happy coincidence that the day of the July meeting of Defford WI coincided with the visit of the Queen and Prince Philip to Worcester. This meant that members were full of enthusiasm for the Jubilee garden party which had been organised to mark this very special royal year.

Unfortunately, the weather was a disappointment. By the evening, as everyone gathered at the home of Patty White, president, there was a heavy drizzle which prevented croquet and garden bowls and the opportunity to explore the lovely garden. However, noone was deterred. Bright and cheerful, red, white and blue attire was the order of the evening, and the kitchen was full of colour and laughter as delicious refreshments brought by members were assembled on the table.

Patty greeted everyone, including two visitors from Switzerland, before business matters were quickly dispensed with.

Members were encouraged to participate in ‘The Jubilee Hour’ which is a campaign encouraging everyone to give 60 minutes of their time to voluntary service before the end of 2012.

In August a skittles evening will be held at The Bluebell at Ryall.

Orders were taken for WI calendars and diaries.

A copy of a printed sheet of forthcoming events and matters of interest was given to each member. Supper was then enjoyed before photographs were taken to record an extremely happy and sociable evening.
