Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown – the world's greatest pilot

Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown CBE DSC AFC RN – the world's most decorated test pilot whose feats set four Guinness World Records. He flew 487 types of aircraft, completed 2,721 aircraft carrier launches and 2,407 aircraft carrier landings.

Come and hear about the man behind the legend. Captain Brown flew every major combat aircraft of the Second World War including gliders, fighters, bombers, flying boats and helicopters, and his contribution to aviation research paved the way for modern technological advances – encompassing transonic flight, assessment of German jets and rocket aircraft, rotary wing flight, and the first carrier decklanding of a jet aircraft.

Local journalist Emily Horton, who interviewed Eric just two weeks before his death in 2016, will be giving a talk about the man, his life and his feats, with a question and answer session to be held after the talk. This event, arranged by the Royal British Legion, will be held at St Wulstans Hall on Tuesday, May 2commencing at 7.30pm. Entrance is free and refreshments will be available.
