PRESIDENT George Bourne opened our meeting this week with the disturbing news that Euro Car Parks is taking over the Riverside Car Park from 31 March resulting in the loss of the £1 all day facility that we have all enjoyed. We agreed with George’s assessment that this was a disaster for our town.

Following apologies and news of members, we warmly welcomed this week’s speaker, fellow member David Senior who practised in Evesham as a chartered accountant until 1986.

He has immersed himself in local activities, including becoming President of Evesham Rotary Club, Captain of Broadway Golf Club, and he played tennis at Evesham Rowing Club.

David described his childhood, schooling and subsequent accountancy training. Doing National Service in the RAF he was sent to Canada to learn to fly, was awarded his wings and sailed First Class with Cunard back to England. He described this period as the best two years of his life although he did have the grace to concede that his wife would be dismayed by this assertion.

His presentation featured his films of wildlife, for example in Africa, South East Asia, South America and the Galapagos. He showed us a variety of wild animals and birds in their natural habitat including elephants, lions, giraffe, Orang Utan, and the unique animals of the Galapagos.

We were bewitched by the skills exhibited by David in editing the material to make the DVDs. This has taken him weeks to prepare and the finished result was enchanting and of a very professional quality.

George Bourne thanked David on our behalf and remarked that his films put our holiday snaps to shame.
