GRENVILLE Burrows was in the chair for the first time as Vice President this week and exuded quiet confidence. He began the meeting with apologies and news of members and we heard about the continuing missing jacket saga as well as several humorous anecdotes.

Fellow member Steve Swarbrick then challenged us to a music quiz ably assisted by his glamorous assistant Grenville. The quiz was very professionally organised although it proved to be extremely challenging for a few of us.

Steve played excerpts from a wide variety of familiar songs over the past fifty years or so and for the first round asked us to identify which body part featured in each song he played. Subsequent rounds featured numbers, animals, months, drinks, jewels and food.

All this trawling back through the tunes of yester-year brought back lots of pleasurable memories for us – although for some of us at least, trying to recall the names or the words proved to be quite difficult. And being urged to think laterally just wasn’t helpful.

However, the majority of our members proved to be absolute stars with Phil Bawn, Andy Richardson and Richard Lawrence being particularly outstanding. Nevertheless, the overall winning team, to loud acclaim, comprised Jim Cox, Tony Davies, Gary Pugh and Bill Birch. Well done that team.

We applauded Steve and Grenville for all the work they had put in to making this quiz such a success. Steve also reminded us that we needed to encourage other like minded chaps to join our club.

Information about our Club, including our programme of forthcoming talks, is on our website: www.eveshamprobus.co.uk.
