WE had a very good turnout for our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 23 February.

George Bourne was elected President for the coming year and said it was a great honour. He presented outgoing President Brian Ireland with a photo album of his year of office which he had undertaken in his own quiet, dignified and inimitable style.

George then awarded Club membership to John Redman of Harvington and the Cup for most attendances during the past year, to Nige Jenkins.

Secretary Clive Allen brought to our attention that esteemed members Gordon Lashford and David Way had now been members for some 26 years. Unfortunately both Gordon and David were absent, so couldn’t bask in the resulting acclaim.

The Committee were duly elected unopposed, much to the amusement of Jeff and the other back row reprobates. Grenville Burrows was particularly thanked for role as Speaker Secretary as was Clive Allen for his assiduous maintenance of our website.

Finally, after hearing the excellent news that our annual subscription was to be kept at last year’s amount, Bob Young was presented with this year’s Quaich award for outstanding service to our Club.

During the conversations that followed, members congratulated fellow member Richard Lawrence on his excellent presentation last week and remarked how much they had enjoyed the informal lunch provided courtesy of Pam and Jan.

As is customary for new members, Richard outlined his life story, beginning with his childhood and youth in Elmley Castle and his 43 years working service with Allen Gears of Pershore. Richard also spoke of his wife Kim and their immense pride in their two grown up offspring.

You’ll find lots of information about our Club, including our programme of forthcoming speakers, on our website - www.eveshamprobus.co.uk.

Do join us.
