ON Tuesday, November 15, members and friends, met with Mr. Tony Spicer and daughter Jenny at the Bell Tower, Evesham to begin a most interesting historical tour following the “de Montfort” trail through Evesham Town and up to the Battlefield Site at the top of Green Hill. Tony, a very enthusiastic friend of the Battlefields Trust explained in detail, the story recalling the events leading up to this Battle where Simon de Montfort and his army were encircled and trapped within the loop of the River Avon, and ultimately killed. Although the Royalists won at this time it was Simon de Montfort and his followers, who sowed the seeds of today`s Parliament and democracy as it is today. A most enjoyable walk and our thanks to Tony for imparting his knowledge and making this event come alive for us.
