WHAT an interesting meeting we had this month (November 2nd). The topic was “10 minutes in the Life of ….”; this was an evening where several members provided a brief insight to their lives. First though we had a very special guest: Mark Stinchcombe, Professional Masterchef Winner 2015! Mark is based at our very own Eckington Manor. He spent some time with us telling us about his Masterchef journey and his passion for food before having to return to the Manor for his restaurant service.

The evening then continued with “10 Minutes in the Life of Eckington WI”. WFWI are preparing their Centenary Book and have asked each WI in the Federation to prepare an updated profile of their WI for inclusion in the book. This is to cover the last 40 years since the publication of the 60th Anniversary Book. So the members listened to our proposed submission which seemed to meet with approval.

Next we had our members’ own stories. First Mary Bickmore talked about her career as a nurse over the years, with some exciting times in the USA as well as sharing some personal insights. Joan Green then followed with her life story, which highlighted her energy in fundraising, resulting in various recognitions with most recently, being a recipient of the Maundy Thursday purse in recognition of service to the community and church; what an honour! Finally, Lesley Robson told us about her work as a guide dog puppy walker. The fun as well as the trials and tribulations of being a puppy walker were apparent in Lesley’s lively talk.

So a very different night for us but a very successful one!
