THE September meeting was at Peopleton Village Hall, the speaker was Michael Bird and the subject “Fats Waller”. It was given in aid of Cancer Research. He was born in New York in 1904, He loved to play the organ from an early age, as can be heard in his music, he became a wonderful pianist and composer . He was known for an enormous number of songs but “ Aint Misbehaving” was the most famous in this country. He died at the age of 39 having spent some time in prison through lack of alimony payments. The talk was interspersed with some of his music. The Chairman reminded members that payments were due for the Christmas lunch at the Vale Golf Club. He also asked members, as the winter was approaching, to ensure the committee was aware of their up to date telephone numbers and e mail, so if necessary they can be contacted. The “Knit and Natter” group meets every third Wednesday in the month for a good chat and to knit garments for charity, presently they are making premature baby clothes, a very worthwhile project.
