Last Wednesday saw the Annual General Meeting of Pershore & District Branch, Royal British Legion take place at Pershore Working Men’s & Old Comrades Club. During the meeting the Branch’s President, Lt. Col. Susan Payne TD.BSc. gave an overall report of the Legion’s activities in the county while the Branch Chairman, Mr Simon Dudfield reported in greater detail on the Branch’s activities through the very busy past year – highlights being, the Branch’s 87th Annual Dinner & Cadet Presentation Evening, Battle of Jutland & Battle of Somme 100th Anniversary commemorations and the truly unique Somme 100 Cine Concert at Number 8 in Pershore. Mr Simon Dudfield thanked the General Management Committee for all their hard work throughout the year, without whom the Branch would not have had such a successful year. Both the Hon. Secretary & the Hon Treasurer received praise for their hard work throughout the year while the Poppy Appeal Organiser, Mr Roger Sainsbury & his wife Zena, received well deserved praise for their work in making 2015 the 2nd most successful Poppy Appeal in the Branch’s history. The Hon. Secretary submitted the new 3 year plan for the committee’s approval – this is a working document designed to build on the success of the Branch this year and although its contents are not set in stone, they should provide the building blocks for the continued success of the Branch. Recruiting remains a major priority and it is worth mentioning that you do not have to have been a member of the Armed Forces to be a member of the Legion. Anyone interested in joining should contact the Hon. Secretary of 01386 553914.
