A very special event for Ashton under Hill W.I. was the 75th Anniversary Celebration which was held at St. Barbara`s Church on Sunday September 18, led by Canon Chris Worsley. Past members, friends and family were invited to participate.

This included extracts from “Jambusters”, by Mary Oliver, where memories were stirred of the First World War and the volunteering work Womens Institutes performed at that time. Mrs Sandra Farquar, a recently retired member and past W.I Advisor revived stories from past Ashton minutes and the work undertaken by Ashton W.I. - knitting socks, making rabbit skin gloves for the troops and also the notorious “jam-making”! The programme included readings by members and joyful hymms including of course, Jerusalem. A donation of £140 from this was given to A.C.W.W. (Associated County Women of the World).

This was followed by a delicious lunch prepared by the Committee and enjoyed by everyone at the Village Hall.
