August is often a quieter month for WIs as many do not hold meetings but this year it made no difference to the members of Pebworth & District WI. A successful and enjoyable visit to the National Memorial Arboretum, 2 productive Knit and Natter sessions, a hectic and hugely enjoyable morning providing refreshments for the charity cycle ride in aid of Action Medical Research & 2 work parties clearing an overgrown cemetery hedge meant that we were busier than ever. But it was still good to all meet again for our monthly meeting and to listen to an inspiring talk by Carole Zambonini, the founder chairman of the Alcester Dementia café. With humour and the active participation of members she explained memory loss, the symptoms of dementia and the help which is available to carers. There appears to be more help now available to family members and carers, much of it initiated by volunteers like Carole.

With autumn fast approaching we are looking forward to an even busier time with visits to Lord and Lady Heseltine’s garden and Salisbury Christmas market, art & fabric printing workshops, clay pigeon shooting sessions, a Christmas meal and visits to neighbouring WIs.
