I CUT the ribbon at the Opening of the Beckford Inn following the refurbishment of this excellent establishment, all eyes were focused on me that was until two magnificent Shire Horses came on the scene, then I knew my place.

Our Town is still buzzing over the Battle of Evesham Medieval Weekend the Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and I spent from 9am to 5pm at the event on Saturday 8, - I have not heard one bad comment about the event and to top it all the weather was perfect.

Sunday 9, I was at the annual football match between Tesco and Morrison when I presented the challenge cup to the winners Tesco.

Saturday I attended the VJ Day Remembrance Service 70th Anniversary, which was held at the Burma Star Memorial, the reverend Cannon Peter Burch led the opening address and prayers followed by the Exhortation by the Chairman of the Evesham Royal British Legion followed by a two minutes silence broken with the Kohima Epitaph by a member of the Burma Star Association.

Recently came across the "Vale Family" a fun magazine for the whole family, this is an excellent publication and I might add is Free so grab a copy you won't be disappointed, it's full of local news, and what's on in Evesham, Pershore and the Villages.

I have recently met a number of members of our community who still have mixed feelings about the Local Government - during these informal discussions I pointed out to them that it is traditional that Local Governments has two roles, one as a service provider, the other a democratic institution, they have traditionally focused on their service provision role - such as housing, education, social services, all extremely important. But my personal opinion is that Town and Parish Councils have another role to play - and one that is increasingly important and that is reflecting broader concerns of local people.
