MEMBERS of Pershore WI have been quite active during the past few weeks.

We have enjoyed a Group outing to the Black Country Museum, a coffee morning hosted by the Mayor in the Town Hall, lunch at the Nightingale and the skittles team reached the final of the County Skittles Competition. We were delighted to hear a most interesting and lively talk by Canadian Prof Linda Ambrose about Mrs Madge Watts who was instrumental in the formation of the WI in Canada, and then came to this country with her two sons and started the WI movement here 100 years ago.

At our June meeting Prof Maggie Andrews spoke to us about her research into the history of the WI movement and encouraged us to discover more about the early days of Pershore WI, bearing in mind that we shall be celebrating our own centenary next year. If anyone reading this report had a family member or friend who was a WI member years ago and has any information or memorabilia that may be relevant to our research, please be kind enough to contact us on 01386 552892. Thank you.

We all took a sample of our favourite recipe to share at our Members' Food Night and had fun tasting and then voting for the best. The winner was judged to be Elizabeth Kearney with her deliciously refreshing Lemon Foam, followed by Jeanette Dowling and June Warman.

Everyone is welcome to join us at our next meeting on Thursday, July 9 at 7 30 pm in the Wulstan Hall when Anthony Collis will speak on Worcestershire Pub Signs. The Rose Bowl Competition will be for an arrangement of garden flowers.
