OUR meeting in March was a more sombre affair than our recent previous meetings. Our guest speaker was Ann Travarez who talked about becoming a ‘Dementia Friend’. Being aware that dementia is likely to affect one in three people over the age of 65, she advised on how it is important to consider what help we can give and what actions we can take to lessen the impact of this progressive illness. Ann gave examples of how we can demonstrate being a dementia friend, not just to those suffering within our immediate family, but also within the wider community. Furthermore, we were reminded of the need to support the family and carers of those suffering from dementia, who have to deal with the impact this progressive disease has on all their daily lives.

During the business section of the meeting, members were reminded of the various activities to look forward to, including: a practice walk for our ‘Walk to the Moon Challenge’, lunch club at the Bluebell, Ryall March 16?????????? and WI Fayre at Harrogate in September. Volunteers were requested for several events: tea hostesses at 3 Counties Show in June; gate stewards for Eckstock; tea hostesses at the Village Hall for the Village Garage Sale; and finally assistance for marshalling the school’s ‘Walk to the Moon’ challenge.

Finally, our next meeting will be on Wednesday April 1. Our guest speaker will be Yvonne Cocks, Hereford & Worcestershire’s first female paramedic. Meeting starts at 7.30pm, Village Hall. Visitors welcome £4.
