OUR February meeting talk was unusual in that it was mostly musical with Richard Churchley talking and singing about the “Songs of the People”. Starting with 'Can’t shove Granny off the Bus' he took us through the social songs including Lonnie Donegan songs which we used to play on our old Danset Record Player through to join in songs of 'Worried Man' also 'Molly Malone' which dates from 1870 and was published in Edinburgh Scotland and is not Irish. Richard took us to sea with 'Sea Shanties' and 'Good Night Irene'. He told us about WW1 songs and of cause we all had to sing 'It’s a Long Way to Tipperary' and 'Pack up your Troubles in the Old kit Bag' finishing with 'Show me the Way to go Home'. Richard was thanked by Audrey Humberstone for his entertaining and informative talk.
Our next meeting is our AGM on Friday, March 6 with a talk afterwards by Roy Albutt entitled First World War Memorial Windows. Only this meeting will be on a Friday. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings
