HARVINGTON was entertained recently with an evening organised by the Youth Project. In a varied programme the audience was enchanted by the delicate sounds of the Harvington Handbell Ringers, amazed by the virtuosity of the recorder when played by Sally Livingstone, sang along with the Ukulele Group, and blown away by the Harts Band with both classic rock and their own composition. Other acts on the night included Richard Thorniley reading humorous poems, singing from the Song Birds, and Ken Knight and Julian Barnett singing and playing the guitar. The compere for the evening was Roger Beard, who also reminded the audience about the origins of the Youth Group. The evening succeeded in both its aims, to entertain the audience and to raise money for Youth Group funds, with over £600 being raised from the event.

Once again the pupils at Harvington First School have shown their generosity by sending 63 boxes for Operation Christmas Child, and by dressing up as heroes and Pudsey and raising £205 for Children in Need.

HATS (Harvington Amateur Theatrical Society) returned with a short but triumphant run in November, with ‘Break a Leg,’ written especially for them by Ken Knight. The appreciative audience laughed until they cried.

The 8th Annual Festive Tasting Day at Ellenden Farm Shop took place recently. The weather amazingly was dry for the actual event, although the stall holders had to set up in driving rain. But fortunately the weather did not prevent Santa from arriving, or the many visitors from sampling the food and drink on offer from local suppliers. It was, as ever, a real community event with many friends, suppliers and local community helping to create a wonderful happy atmosphere.

The Royal British Legion thanks all those who helped to raise £1127 from the annual Poppy Appeal. The funds have now been forwarded to the Royal British legion headquarters.
