Our newly elected President, Ann Evans, welcomed members and one visitor to our meeting on November 13.

She began by saying how interesting and informative last month's visit to Worcester Cathedral Library had been. It was wonderful to see documents and books, some of them dating back to the 8th century, so well preserved and in some cases beautifully illuminated and to imagine the many hours of painstaking work it would have taken to produce them. We rounded off our visit in the Cloister Cafe, where we enjoyed a bowl of homemade carrot and corriander soup.

On November 4, Joyce Davey had hosted a Lemon Drizzle Cake afternoon in aid of the Worcester Breast Cancer Unit. This was very well supported and there was a raffle and sales table as well as cake, tea and chat, so we all enjoyed ourselves, while supporting a very good cause.

We are planning our usual New Year's lunch in February at the Broadway Golf Club and are getting together ideas for more interesting outings and events in 2015. As always, the committee encourage members to pass on suggestions for places they would like to visit.

Cameron Addicott then gave an enlightening talk on his 20 Years Undercover with Customs and Organised Crime. He spoke about what motivated the criminals and the methods used to catch them, as well as explaining money laundering and surveillance techniques. It was a fascinating insight into a shadowy world, particularly for those of us who are fans of crime dramas on the television.

Next month it will be our Christmas Social, when we will enjoy a 'bring and share' supper. At the meeting we will be collecting donations in support of Caring Hands in the Vale. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings at the Hampton Guide and Scout Community Hall on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm.
