FOLLOWING club news, President Jim Cox warmly welcomed back our guest speaker, Rosemary Prosser. Rosemary has addressed us on four previous occasions and this time she entitled her talk “Hot wheels and cold meals”

She advocated laughter as the best medicine, although our resident medical man, Dr Rex, didn’t seem to agree entirely and Cliff asked whether it could fix his dodgy knees! She told us that since becoming a speaker in 2005 to a wide variety of gatherings, she has given over 900 talks so far and has travelled some 36,000 miles.

She has had a busy life, having been in the police force, a farmer’s wife, looking after her children, being secretary of the Studley College Trust and the Asparagus Growers Federation, a race day guide at Cheltenham racecourse and now a speaker for the Women’s Institute.

She related lots of her experiences as a public speaker including many amusing and sometimes embarrassing instances. She clearly enjoys her current role and explained that hot wheels and cold meals didn’t refer to her WI work, rather that she now has hot wheels whilst her long-suffering husband has to contend with cold meals! He clearly doesn’t mind her being out so often.

On behalf of members, Bob Young thanked her for never failing to entertain us.

Next week, on October 23, we will have Jon Goldswain talking about the life of Sir Edward Elgar and then on October 30 we look forward to our annual lunch at the Kings Court Hotel in Alcester.
