What a fantastic day we had for the Bretforton Open Gardens which took place on Sunday June 1. The gardens looked stunning, the weather was lovely and around 400 visitors enjoyed a great day out. We were very grateful to the 11 Garden Owners for all their hard work in making the event happen and to all of those who helped out on the day, it was well worth while. A share of the proceeds will be going to Midlands Air Ambulance and the Bretforton First School Eco Garden.

The weather really has been kind to us this month and once again we had sunshine for our trip out to visit the gardens at Sandywell Barn House near Cheltenham. Going back to the 1800's the garden was originally the walled garden to a nearby Manor House but over the years had gone through many changes included being used as a Market Garden. Shirley and Gordon Sills took it on 25 years ago and have lovingly restored the garden to create different planting areas and themes with many unusual plants set in a stunning vista. Over 20 members enjoyed the visit, topped off by some delicious home-made cake!

Our next event is our Gardener's Question Time on Thursday July 3 starting at 7.30pm at Bretforton Memorial Hall. We have an illustrious Panel of Experts including Paul Williams, broadcaster and horticulturist; Jon Heath, Head Gardener at Bretforton Manor and Jon Wood, Head Gardener at Larkstoke Manor. Members will be coming armed with their gardening conundrums!

The Garden Club provides a great opportunity for people to learn about a variety of gardening topics in a friendly environment and enjoy interesting days out. We would be delighted to see any new members who wish to join. Please go to our website www.bretforton-gardenclub.co.uk for more information.
