Members and visitors from other Garden Clubs enjoyed a fun night out in Bretforton where they were able to test out their gardening knowledge in the Inter-Village Garden Quiz on March 20. Ebrington, Blockley and Mickleton Garden Clubs joined Bretforton to do battle in a nail-biting contest under the expert guidance of Quizmaster Howard Drury. Howard is a renowned broadcaster and horticulturist and set a variety of questions including music and picture challenges as well as giving us many gardening hints and tips along the way.

Mickleton were the worthy winners of the Shield, and members also took part in a special challenge to guess the origin of a number of unusual garden tools - attempting to identify their daisy grubbers from their mistletoe cutters!

Our next event is on April 3 when we have Andrew Mikolajski talking to us about Pruning - The Unkindest Cut. Andrew is the author of the RHS Guide - Pruning Plant by Plant. If ever there's a subject that baffles many gardeners, it's pruning. This demonstration explains the principles of pruning so you need never be baffled again!

This will be followed on May 1 by a talk from Brian Ellis who is the owner of Avondale Nurseries and Display Garden which is full of rare and unusual flowers and grasses. The Garden is known as the Library Garden as visitors often use the garden like a reference book!. Brian will be talking to us about ‘Texture and Foliage in the Garden’.

The Garden Club provides a great opportunity for people to learn about a variety of gardening topics in a friendly environment and enjoy interesting days out. We would be delighted to see any new members who wish to join. Please go to our website www.bretforton-gardenclub.co.uk for more information.
