Harvington First School are celebrating as, following a recent Local Authority review, they have been graded as an outstanding school, which is the highest grade possible. This judgement is based on the achievement and progress of all year groups and recognises both the children’s excellent learning attitudes and the teaching that they receive.

Coming up: On Saturday March 1 Harvington Nursery and Pre School will present ‘Shaken Not Stirred Casino Night,’ in the Village Hall from 7.30pm. Tickets, available from Claire on 07837 494 770 are £12.50 which includes live music, disco and chips to play at casino.

On Wednesday 5 March the Harvington Phoenix Ladies Group (HPLG) are hosting an open meeting at the Village Hall at 7.45pm to which husbands, partners and friends are warmly invited. Also on Fridays until Easter, the Lent Lunches will be held in St. James’ Church between 12midday-2pm. This is a chance to enjoy a chat over a tasty bowl of soup, and at the same time give money to a very good cause. The proceeds from the donations given at the Lent Lunches goes to The Children’s Society to help with the work they do in seeking to provide a better childhood for every child. They work to provide a voice and improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, including children in care, children with disabilities, young runaways and young refugees. On Friday March 7 the annual Women’s Day of Prayer service will be held in Harvington Baptist Church at 6pm, with refreshments available from 5.30pm. This multi-denominational service which has been put together by the women of Egypt will have members of the local Anglican, Baptist, Roman Catholic and Methodist taking part. This is a truly global event, as each year it involves over 170 countries, with meetings that begin at sunrise in Tonga and continue around the world until sunset in the Eastern Pacific islands. Over 3 million women will be joining in the service whose theme is, ‘Streams in the Desert.’ Janet Stean will be leading a meditation.

St James’ Church is hosting a Coffee Morning in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on Saturday March 8 in the Village Hall between 10am-12 noon. As well as coffee and cake there will be several stalls available. In addition Red. Richard Thorniley invites sponsorship for the Stratford Half Marathon which he will be running to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
