Driver a day held in blitz on booze

MORE than one driver a day was arrested in June as part of the annual summer drink-drive crackdown in Gloucestershire.

There were 46 people arrested in the county, including a Winchcombe man, between June 1 and June 30, following the launch of the campaign by the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership.

During the campaign extra patrols were in place to conduct breath tests as part of Gloucestershire Constabulary’s work to ensure football fans enjoying Euro 2012, as well as other drivers, were heeding warnings about how long alcohol can stay in your system.

The month-long campaign saw eight women and 38 men arrested, some of whom will now face being banned from driving.

Out of the arrested drivers, 31 were charged with the offences and will be due in court while 11 drivers were bailed to return to the police station at a later date pending further enquiries.

Most were stopped in their vehicles between 11pm and 4am but arrests were also made throughout the day and as early as 7am.
