Teenager who glassed man at Hallowe’en spared jail

A TEENAGER who glassed a man in a Cheltenham night club at a Hallowe’en party has been spared jail.

Alexander Anderson, aged 19, of Guiting Power, admitted assaulting Christopher Forster on November 1.

At Gloucester Crown Court last week he was sentenced to a six-week electronically tagged 8pm-6am curfew and ordered to pay £250 compensation to his victim.

Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said that on Hallowe’en night last year Mr Forster was out with friends and they ended up at the Kukui club in Bath Road, Cheltenham.

She said there was some pushing on the dancefloor and there was a scuffle.

“One of the men, the defendant, appeared to take offence and took a step towards him with a glass in his hand.

It connected with his right forehead. Later in interview Anderson said he had not realised he was holding a glass and he had thought that all the drinks containers in the club were plastic.”

Tim Burrows, defending, said: “He has little recollection of the events of that night. Everyone was completely sloshed. The defendant appears to have taken a bit of a beating himself.”

Judge Jamie Tabor QC said that it was no doubt a combination of “testosterone, girls and drink”.
