Residents quizzed on plans for 400 homes

RESIDENTS in Hampton have been asked to give their views on proposals for 400 new homes.

Housing developer Bellway Homes held a public consultation on April 27-28, where they displayed plans for the new homes on Pershore Road in Hampton, Evesham.

The development would be built in phases throughout the life of the South Worcestershire Development Plan between 2012 to 2026.

It is likely the first application, which has not yet been submitted, would comprise of 150 dwellings.

Consultation documents said the development would reflect the nature of the site, maintain views towards Bredon hill and create new recreation facilties, play ares, pedestrian and cycle links and public open spaces.

County and district councillor John Smith said: “My personal view, as a native of Hampton, is this is way over the top and whilst Bellway, in their presentation plans, have suggested all sorts of community facilities, it would be very unusual if they ever come to fruition when the final development moves forward.

“Regarding the suggested new homes, my view is they should be bungalow-type dwellings to match those on the north side of Pershore Road and the St Andrew’s Road properties to the east.

“I would also be extremely concerned about the junction of the site onto the Pershore Road and would wish to see a traffic impact assessment be carried out.”
