THE Cotswold MP has been given a knighthood for his services to political and public service.
It means that Geoffrey Clifton-Brown will now be referred to as Sir Geoffrey.
He was first elected as an MP in 1992 and has served as parliamentary private secretary to the Rt. Hon Douglas Hogg QC MP, minister for agriculture, fisheries and food, and on a member of a number of committees.
Mr Clifton-Brown is also a former shadow minister for trade and foreign affairs and shadow minister for international development and trade.
More recently, he is currently a member of the Conservatives Party’s ruling 1922 Committee as the treasurer.
Mr Clifton-Brown, MP for the Cotswolds, told The Times: “It’s great to be recognised for having worked for a long number of years on behalf of my community.” Asked whether he believed that Brexit had any influence, he said that it was “completely coincidental."
He is vice-president of the alliance of European Conservatives and reformists, as well as the chairman of the international office.
