A CARE home nurse in Chipping Norton has been rewarded for her hard work.

Penhurst Gardens’ Care Home nurse Alison McHugh, scooped a gong at The Great British Care Awards in Bristol on Saturday night, winning The Good Nurse Award for the regional heats.

At the South West regional finals held at the Marriott Hotel, she was commended for her passion for the role.

They noted how she strived to enable independence and promote wellbeing through the successful partnerships she has forged with other health professionals but what impressed them the most was that her role is not a job, but rather a vocation.

Penhurst Gardens has been open just short of a year, with four staff members reaching the finals in the categories of care home chef, activities organiser and care trainer as well as the good nurse award.

Matthew Berry, home manager, commented, “I am proud of every one of the team here at Penhurst Gardens and all of them deserve awards in my eyes.

"We’re all thrilled for Alison though and very proud too. She’s a brilliant nurse, so it’s not surprising but it’s very well deserved. We are looking forward to the national finals in March where we are just as confident that Alison will come out on top”.

Penhurst Gardens, located on New Street, provides care for a range of needs, including residential, nursing and dementia care on a long or short term basis.
