YOUNG people in the Cotswolds enjoyed a week of special summer activities, culminating in a family fun day at Bourton in the Water.

The week, which brought the summer holidays to a close, offered children, young people and families a fun programme to enjoy.

The programme included a combination of indoor and outdoor activities using community venues like the Westwoods Centre in Northleach and green spaces such as the Naight playing field in Bourton,

Among the activities were drama and cooking workshops, sports activities and more.

The week's events were organised by World Jungle, an award-winning community and arts organisation which is based at Dursley and aims to bring people together to create healthier communities.

World Jungle received support from Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, leader of the Lib Dem group on Gloucestershire County Council, who secured funding from the council's children’s activity fund to run the programme.

The events formed part of World Jungle's Summer off the Streets programme, which included a wide range of activities and events for children, young people and families to enjoy over the summer.

As well as the activities in Gloucestershire, World Jungle got support from Cotswold District Council’s youth activities fund to deliver a programme of events and activities specifically targeted at teenagers at locations across the district including Chipping Campden.

In addition to organising community events, World Jungle also has a range of workshops that it takes into local schools.

The week ended with the family fun day at the Naight on Friday, where a whole range of fun activities were available to enjoy. and other events on offer that day were drumming, juggling, face painting, go karts and a bouncy castle.

Cllr Hodgkinson said: "I was really pleased to be able to support this summer activity programme which has once again proved so popular with children and families. Joining in the juggling proved a challenge but the sun shone right through the fun day and I’m glad so many turned up.”
