A GARDEN near Shipston on Stour will be opening its gates to the public on Sunday, September 11, as part of the National Gardens Scheme.

The garden at Burmington Grange, Cherington, covers one-and-a-half acres of rolling North Cotswolds hills, this includes a sunken rose garden, orchard and tree walk with deep borders.

The garden is the work of Patrick Ramsey, the retired national head of residential for top estate agents Knight Frank and Rutley, and his wife Fudge.

The garden will be open from 2pm to 6pm, and admission is £5, children free. Home-made teas will be served in the garden on the day.

The National Gardens Scheme is the main fundraiser for such important palliative and cancer care charities as Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Last year, £2.6 million was raised by garden-enthusiasts enjoying leisurely strolls through members' gardens, and completing the outing with home-made cream teas.
