THIS was the scene when a coach burst into flames.

The driver escaped uninjured from the blaze - no other people were on the coach.

The coach caught fire while the driver was travelling towards Chipping Campden on the B4035 near the Charingworth Manor Hotel on Sunday at about 7pm.

The coach was destroyed by the fire and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene to 9.50pm.

John Musgrove, who took the photographs, said on Monday: "The road will have to be resurfaced, due to burns to the road. "Bits of coach are still lying around.

"Even though there are road closures in place, people continue to drive through, but I do not think much can be done about this."

The B4035 (between the May Lane crossroads and the Station Road Ebrington junction) as well as Clay Lane are still closed for resurfacing work which is set to start tomorrow (Thurs) after the debris was cleared away.

The junction by Challingworth Manor as well as the High Street in Chipping Campden were also shut, but were re-opened on Monday afternoon.

A member of staff at the Charingworth Manor Hotel said: "We heard that the coach burst into flames and exploded as the driver was driving home to Chipping Campden to get some sleep."

AGloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "GFRS sent one appliance from Moreton in Marsh and one from Stow on Wold.

"Another crew from Shipston-on-Stour attended too (Warwickshire FRS).

"Crews used two jets, two hose reels and four breathing apparatus to deal with the fire.

Coach was severely damaged by fire, but no-one injured."

It is not known what coach company operated the vehicle.
