A COUPLE who set up a trust in memory of their son who died of cancer have been awarded North Cotswolds Rotary Club’s Community Service Award for 2016.

Colin and Terasa Pilcher set up the Sam Pilcher Trust in memory of their son, who died in 2010, aged 11.

Whilst undergoing treatment, Sam himself started fundraising for Clic Sargent, and his parents founded the trust named after him in 2011.

Rotary club president Graham Ogden said: “We are delighted to recognise all that you have achieved since setting up the trust. You are doing wonderful work in the community and are very worthy winners of this award, and we wish you well in the future.”

The Rotary Club's award includes a cheque for £250 for the trust.

Mr Pilcher, who chairs the trust, said: “It is an enormous boost for us to receive this award. We are a small charity and to be recognised by Rotary for our work is a great honour, and we and the trustees are immensely proud.

"North Cotswolds Rotary Club has been a great supporter of our trust for four years and we are very grateful for their continuing interest in our activities.”

The Sam Pilcher Trust cares for children suffering with all forms of cancer, and their families. Amongst other things, the trust has also helped to refurbish the oncology ward at Gloucester Royal Children's Hospital, and the adolescent activity room at Bristol Royal Children's Hospital.

Mrs Pilcher said: "Based on our own experience, our mission is to provide help in areas overlooked by other charities. We are committed to ensuring that every young person and their family is supported during their most difficult days.”
