THE public is being given the chance to have its say on Cotswold District Council's new draft housing policy document, which includes the authority’s strategic priorities for the next four years until 2020.

Members of the public, organisations and partners will soon be invited to submit comments on all sections of the draft plan. The consultation period begins on Tuesday May 3 with a deadline for responses of Tuesday June 14.

The draft plan contains six main objectives: understanding the Cotswold housing market area; increasing the supply and access to all tenures of housing; developing thriving, sustainable communities; providing housing for our most vulnerable residents; making best use of the existing stock; and prevent and respond to homelessness.

Cabinet member for planning and housing Cllr Sue Jepson said: “Where people live is of huge importance to their wellbeing. This Plan is key to ensuring that the range – and affordability - of housing in the Cotswolds contributes to a good quality of life, and also supports local communities and the economy.

“We want to hear views about this draft plan from all sections of the local community including residents, partners and businesses. It would also be extremely useful to receive information or suggestions about alternative or additional ways to address the issues.”

Two public ‘drop in’ events are to be held during the week commencing May 23, enabling people to discuss the proposals with housing officers.

From May 3 onwards the draft plan document and an online response form will be available to download on the council website. The form can be submitted electronically or by post.

Anyone wishing to see a paper copy of the consultation document will be able to visit the council offices at Trinity Road, Cirencester or the Moreton Area Centre during their normal opening hours. Paper copies of the consultation response form will also be available at those locations.
