YOUNGSTERS from Stow Primary School have secured a second life-saving defibrillator for the town thanks to a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The school was given £1,310 to buy the device which is used when people suffer a cardiac arrest and also fund training.

Staff at the school are also working with Stow Town Council to raise more money to buy a third defibrillator for the community.

Rebecca Scutt, headteacher at Stow Primary School, said: “We would like to have a triangle of three defibrillators in the town to enable everyone in the community to be able to access one because when someone suffers from a cardiac arrest you need to act as quickly as possible.

“We’re delighted Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has been able to help.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities and good causes around the UK.

The donation was nominated by Riah Kelton, who works in the Chelsea Building Society Customer Service Centre at Charlton King, which is part of Yorkshire Building Society.

She said: “Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded mainly by our members and I know they would be proud that their small change was making such a big difference to the community in Stow.”

In 2015, the Charitable Foundation paid 1,502 donations totalling £392,276 to good causes and charities throughout the UK.
