CHIPPING Norton's Co-op store is lending a helping hand to the local community by donating £1,000 every month to good causes.

The supermarket based in the high street is launching the Community Choices campaign this month, which will see members of The Midcounties Co-operative Society nominate and vote for a local charity or community group to receive a cash injection.

Members can put forward their suggestions of local good causes to be considered for the vote via posting boxes installed in the Chipping Norton store. Voting will take place through email, with information about how to get involved being sent to members in the area. The successful community groups will be selected on a monthly basis to receive a donation of £1,000 to help make a positive impact to the area.

Since the store’s launch in July 2015, it has been giving back to the local community with various fundraising initiatives. Most recently, colleagues, members and customers at the store donated 1,000 items to the local food bank during a charity drive.

The new campaign is part of The Midcounties Co-operative’s commitment to providing a positive impact on the communities it serves through its regional community programme.

Stewart Howe, leadership team community ambassador said: “The launch of the Community Choices campaign is a great addition to our work supporting the people of Chipping Norton.

“We understand that charitable giving goes far beyond just fundraising and we’re happy to donate time and items as well as funds. We’re looking forward to welcoming members into the store for our first round of nominations.”
