GIRL Guide groups from Chipping Campden, Guiting Power and Bourton joined 160 fellow guides from across Gloucestershire for an action-packed camping adventure at the Girlguiding headquarters at Cowley.

Groups of four worked in teams to earn points on 22 different challenges to be the winner of the first ever Bubbs Hill Bash. Challenges included a tunnel maze, archery, code breaking, blindfold sandwich making, pistol shooting and low ropes walks, as well as more traditional guiding activities such as knotting and map reading.

Each group had a decorated mallet that was given a name.

The girls camped overnight, some for the first time ever, and enjoyed a campfire with singing before heading for their tents on Saturday night. The winners were announced on Sunday morning with Zoe Brown, Natasha Hart, Amelia Hancox and Katie Betteley from 1st Chipping Campden Guides earning second place.

Anne Anderson, the event’s organiser said: "The girls really enjoyed the weekend, particularly being able to work in small groups to challenge themselves whilst having the freedom to travel round the site without a Leader in tow, choosing the challenges they wanted to take part in."

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK, with 553,633 members.
