MINE hosts of a Stretton pub are thrilled after winning an award after only being at the helm for nine months.

Steve and Mandy Aubrey, of the Plough Inn, have picked up Shakespeare's Camra Pub of the Season winter/spring 2014/2015.

"We are over the moon as its our very first pub," said Mr Aubrey. "Mandy previously ran her own little housekeeping business whilst I ran a small building business.

"Stretton is simply a most charming village and epitomises rural village life. Being villagers from Blockley ourselves, we knew this was exactly the type of pub we wanted to come and buy and make our own," he added.

Mr Aubrey says the key to their getting their first award has been helped with the new dedicated team of staff.

The Plough Inn uses a regular rotational system for its ales and always tries to keep the guest ales sourced locally.

The menu presents traditional home cooked dishes which are cooked from fresh by a chef with 20 years' experience.

On Sundays, pork, beef and chicken are all spit roasted over the inglenook fire before being served to table and the couple have doubled the new garden area with a new lawn and an elevated view.
