RESIDENTS in West Oxfordshire have until the end of March to take up an offer of up to 100 per cent funding support for loft and cavity wall insulation.

Insulating loft and exterior walls reduces energy costs by containing warmth within the home. Savings can be hundreds of pounds each year.

On average, a quarter of the heat in a typical home is lost when a loft is not insulated and this makes it very difficult to keep the house warm without increasing heating bills considerably.

Additionally, many homes built after the 1930’s are likely to have cavity walls and if these are not insulated, the home will typically lose around 35 per cent of the warmth generated by heating.

Councillor David Harvey, cabinet member for environment at West Oxfordshire District Council said: “The costs of expensive energy bills can be greatly reduced after a home has been well insulated, in some cases saving hundreds of pounds each year. I encourage householders to take advantage of this offer as it would make a real difference to making their homes, warmer and greener.”

The funding is being offered through Green Homes Together, a community interest company supported by 15 local authorities. It is sourced through the Energy Company Obligation, which requires large energy suppliers to help people who require insulation.
