FOLK rock band Fairport Convention is the headline act at the inaugural Music at Stow Festival beginning this Wednesday October 29 and running through to Saturday November 1.

The band formed in north London and played their first concert in a church hall in May 1967. Since then, Fairport Convention have won a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award while Radio 2 listeners voted their Liege & Lief album the most influential folk album of all time.

They play at St Edward's Church at 8pm on Wednesday. It is the first of several concerts in and around the town for the first Music at Stow festival, featuring jazz, orchestral, classical and children’s performances.

Artists appearing in Music at Stow include: October 30 - Tina May sings jazz in the Cotswold Cricket Museum at 8pm; Michael Bochmann, Condicote Village Hall at 7pm and Go Goblins, music for children at St Edward's Church (all day). October 31 - The Klaglust Ensemble, 7.30pm in St Edward's Church and on November 1 - jazz pianist Phil DeGreg at 7.30pm in St Edward's Church.

Music at Stow chairman, Brian Honess said: “Live music is always the best and to have the legendary Fairport Convention open our first festival is a tremendous coup. We want to make this an annual event and bring a variety of the best musicians to Stow.”

Tickets for all the concerts are available from Stow Information Centre at the Cotswold Cricket Museum.
