School’s joy at top award
THE headteacher of Shipston High School is singing the praises of his staff and students as the school prepares to receive a top national award.
Jonathan Baker was told this week that the technology college has been recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) and will receive an award for its high performance in London this evening.
The award is in recognition of Shipston High School's achievements in the 2007 GCSE and equivalent exams, in which the school became one of only a small number across the country to achieve a value-added score of 10 points or more.
Headteacher Jonathan Baker said: "We were delighted to hear about this award which is a real tribute to the hard work of both the school's staff and students.
"This award is in recognition of the improvement our students make after joining the school, which is the only genuine measure of a school's academic success.
"After witnessing the television BAFTA awards last weekend, it is particularly pleasing to be invited down to BAFTA to pick up our very own award for this school's achievements."
A number of representatives from the school have been invited to pick up the award at a prestigious presentation ceremony at BAFTA in Piccadilly tonight.
Also attending the ceremony this evening will be educational dignitaries including Lord David Puttnam of Queensgate, director of the SSAT David Crossley, chairman of the SSAT Sir James Hill and Sue Hackman, director and chief advisor on school standards for the department for children, schools and families.
