Stock is missing from line-up
THERE was a strange atmosphere at the Batsford Road showground early on Saturday, writes Gerry Barnett.
The area where normally stockmen would be grooming and showing their entries of cattle, sheep and goats was empty and quiet, the result of the ban of stock movements following the Foot-and-Mouth outbreak.
It was particularly disappointing as there had been a massive entry of nearly 150 in the National Poll Hereford Show alone. Moreton is always a must for sheep farmers and host to the national show of the native Cotswold Sheep, the Cotswold Lions.
But the weather was good and soon the crowds started to pour in and quickly the showground was buzzing and the various marquees and shopping areas packed.
Together with the events in the main ring and all that was going on in the attractions area, there was plenty to do and see and few visitors could have been disappointed with their day out.
President Ken Taylor, who has been associated with the show for over 40 years, had a busy day touring the showground and carrying out his many official duties.
He said: "I found there was a really happy atmosphere all around the showground. I am very pleased it went so well."
