Pebworth In Bloom

Winter seems to have appeared suddenly but the first snowfall of the year did not stop over 60 joining us at the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in St Peter’s churchyard on Saturday, December 10. A heart- warming peel of bells rang out to welcome everyone on a bitterly cold night and there were “oohs” and aaahs” when the small elves switched on the lights. Rev Scott blessed the tree and the community, we sang one carol and then retreated to the comparative warmth of the church for more excellent singing, mulled wine, mince-pies and home-made biscuits.

We have been fortunate over the past few years to be given bulbs and plants by Hayloft Nurseries near Worcester and this year a vast number of perennials were donated and potted up by volunteers on Saturday 16, at Fibrex Nursery. Wrapped up warm , with hot drinks and Christmas music, volunteers set to and over 2,000 plants will now be ready for planting out in the spring. Pebworth In Bloom has had an amazingly successful year, with the highlight obviously being chosen to represent the region in the UK finals and we are looking forward to another exciting year with our first event “Buzz about Bees” on Sunday, January 28 in Pebworth Village Hall when local beekeepers will share their knowledge. There may even be honey sandwiches for tea!
